July 2024: Clearing the Way for Progress

As we moved into July 2024, our focus shifted to the physical transformation of the project. The entrance, long marred by towering but dying cottonwood trees, needed a serious facelift. Each windstorm added new cracks and crumbled branches. It was hard work, but it had to be done—clearing the way for progress and ensuring a safe, welcoming entry.

Why We Removed the Cottonwoods

The trees told a story of age and stress. Because they were failing, they posed real risks to visitors, vehicles, and the entrance structure. In addition, falling limbs threatened utilities and fencing. So we prioritized safety first, then aesthetics. The goal wasn’t just a prettier entrance; it was a safer, more reliable approach for guests and crews.

How We Planned the Work

We walked the site, marked hazards, and scheduled removal for calm, dry days. Therefore, crews could work efficiently and keep debris contained. We also coordinated staging so traffic kept flowing and neighboring properties stayed protected. Finally, we preserved healthy growth nearby to maintain shade and windbreaks.

Clearing the Way for Progress

This phase was about more than cutting trees—it was about creating space for what’s next. By removing unstable cottonwoods, we improved sight lines, reduced storm risk, and opened room for a clean entrance plan. As a result, trucks, vendors, and future guests will have a safer, smoother arrival.

Next, we’ll shape the approach, grade low spots, and plan durable, low‑maintenance plantings. Because native and drought‑tolerant species thrive here, they’ll frame the entrance without heavy upkeep. We’ll also review lighting for visibility and add signage that welcomes guests and sets the tone.

Clearing the way for progress meant making tough calls—safety over sentiment, function before finishes. However, this step lays a solid foundation for everything that follows. With the hazards gone and the path open, we can focus on building a beautiful, reliable entrance that reflects what lies ahead.

It’s only April 2024. Are you off a year on your posts? This says July 2024?
